WALT DISNEY IMAGINATIONS COMPETITION 2017
PROJECT CHALLENGE
Our parks, resorts, cruise ships and entertainment venues are designed to be places for families and friends to gather and create memories together. Beyond the attractions, restaurants, shows and parades, our parks and resorts include outdoor spaces that are functional yet invite guests to pause and enjoy the time in between their activities. We challenge you to apply some of our same design principles to create a new outdoor space within your college or university that addresses current students, faculty and visitors needs while providing a respite from the stresses of college life.
OVERVIEW
In response to the challenge above, my teammate and I formed a team of two and developed Clair de Lune, a structure that serves to bring the college community together and advocates a safe environment for communication of ideas. Clair de Lune includes the Lune, a central fountain structure that holds the voice recording wishing orbs, the seating area around it, and an accompanying app under the same name. We finished as one of the 68 semi-finalists out of 330 groups that applied.

As Disney Imagineers are not only builders and designers but also storytellers, Clair de Lune is a structure with a story behind it. A story about a girl getting lost while chasing her dreams and finding them again.

USER EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW
Users can experience the interactive installation, Clair de Lune, in three main different ways. The installation consists of a primary fountain structure called Lune, with which users can input thoughts to share with the community. To hear a recording, users simply pick up a voice recording "wishing orb" from the water and press a button to listen to the message. Users then submit their own recording and place the orb back into the Lune through the suction tube of the structure.
Surrounding Lune is a seating area with individual and group booths that serve as meeting points. Using the accompanying mobile application called “Clair de Lune,” the users can modify the seating floor plan as the changes are reflected real time through electronic sensors under the installation and meet new people through the GPS locater that detects other users nearby.
In their own time, users can log into their accounts on Clair de Lune that allows them to create their personalized profile, keep their “Star Memory,” a journal on their way to self discover, play with their own star mascot, and browse a product catalog with themed merchandise.
